How It Started...
The OneRoom story began in 2014 before machine-learning, AI, blockchain, and crypto were mainstream. A small motley (and slightly dysfunctional) team united around a dream to make education work for everyone. We set out to build a communication platform that would get everyone, in and outside, of a school community, onto 'one page' and in doing so, build strong communities, greater engagement and better academic outcomes.
We were driven by the desire to improve student academic outcomes and opportunities (via enhanced organization), parental engagement (via better connection), community involvement (via local opportunities) while reducing administrative load and turnover for teachers, staff and executive leadership. A mobile-first communication platform that works for everyone.
Apart from the inherent challenges of being an ed-tech startup, we faced battles with fundraising and convincing schools of the need for more effective and efficient communication solutions.
And then...COVID hit...the sudden move to online education left schools scrambling to figure out how to effectively communicate with parents and students. Deflated, defeated and out of runway, we sat in our basement office amused by the irony of it all - the canary in the coal mine, for sure!
In the end, the team imploded and one woman was left standing.
Undeterred, Claudia Lamb, OneRoom co-founder, set about securing patents, battling immigration and continues to work on making the OneRoom dream work (while continuing to raise four children and keep the wolf from the door through Lamb Strategy work).
Her enthusiasm for, and belief in, the power of a fully decentralized communication platform remains undiminished.
